Call me a widefield junkie and you would be right. In the quest for imaging wide swathes of space, I experimented with various camera lenses such as the Nikon 200mm F2 and the Rokinon 135mm F2 before settling for the Sigma 105mm on a crop sensor giving me a fov equivalent to 12° x 8°. I am quite happy with my decision even though the stars are not perfectly round in the corners, something I tried hard to rectify but could not. Anyhow, Russ Croman’s BlurXT does do a fine job in fixing the issue. Seen here is the ever popular southern sky target – The Eta Carina nebula. The wide field of view comfortably captures the Gabriel Mistral and Statue of Liberty nebula and a slightly different framing would have allowed the Running Chicken to be featured as well…
